Buford 73, Starr’s Mill 54

Senior Chase Robinson leads the Buford boys basketball team to victory over Starr’s Mill during the North Georgia Showcase on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Buford Arena.

Robinson led the offense scoring 19 points for the Wolves. Another offensive standout for Buford was junior Kyle Carpenter who added 11 points.

Buford’s overall season record improved to 7-1.

Next for the Wolves is another home game on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. against Southwest Dekalb.

Girls basketball

Buford 70, Starr’s Mill 36

Buford dominated Starr’s Mill 70-36 during the North Georgia Showcase on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Buford Arena.

Buford held Starr’s Mill to just four points at the end of the first quarter as Buford was leading 23-4 going into the second quarter. The Panthers did not fare much better during the second quarter as the Wolves were leading 47-20 going into halftime. Buford continued to lead Starr’s Mill going into the fourth quarter with the Wolves up 68-32 over the Panthers.

Senior Ava Grace Watson led Buford’s offense with 28 points, 20 coming in the first half. Sophomore Lydia Ledford contributed with 15 points for the Wolves.

Buford’s overall season record improved to 7-1.

The Buford girls basketball team will be hosting Southwest Dekalb on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at the Buford Arena. The game starts at 6 p.m.

Lanier 42, Southwest-Macon 40

The Lanier girls basketball team barely edges past Southwest-Macon to secure a 42-40 win on Saturday, Dec. 16 at home.

Standouts for Lanier included sophomore Jordan Johnson, who scored 17 points, freshman Michelle Ezumah with 13 points and 15 rebounds, senior Asja Howell had eight points, nine rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Lanier’s overall season record improved to 3-6.

The Longhorns will play Wren on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m.

Boys wrestling

Buford wrestling team places second at challenging Kansas City Stampede

The Buford wrestling team participated in the prestigious Kansas City Stampede Dec. 15-16. The Wolves finished second as a team with 176.50 out of 94 teams. The top spot went to Liberty, Mo. with 212 points.

Drew Gorman was Buford’s only individual champion as he won his 138-pound weight class by beating Jackson Tucker of Hillsboro.

Buford’s wrestlers who placed in the tournament were Aaron Riner, runner-up in 215 weight class; DJ Clarke, third place in 113 weight class; Gavin Pope, fourth place in 144 weight class; and Grayson Santee, seventh place in 165 weight class.
