The Gwinnett County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Buford man who had his basement listed for rent with Airbnb.
According to Gwinnett County Police, the suspect, Khalil Hamilton, 26 reserved a basement room in a home located in the 2200 block of Seed Way in Buford through Airbnb. Hamilton arrived at the home at 10:05 p.m. on September 26 to check into the rental. The suspect sent a text message at 10:43 p.m. to the owner of the rental, stating that the toilet in his room was leaking.
The victim came downstairs to check out the leak and when he turned around, the suspect had a black handgun and a white taser pointed at him. Hamilton made the suspect get down on the ground and he proceeded to tie up the victim with zip ties. Hamilton demanded the victim’s wallet including his money and cards.
Knowing that his son and mother were home in their bedrooms on the second floor at the time of the incident, the victim told Hamilton to take whatever he wanted so long as he wouldn’t harm him or his family. The victim told Hamilton where to find his wallet and Hamilton went upstairs to get his wallet.
Hamilton returned with a gray backpack belonging to the victim and left in a car he had parked in the driveway. He got away with the victim’s wallet which contained $120 in cash, driver’s license, credit cards and debit cards, as well as a pair of Beats by Dre headphones and an electric shaver.
According to the victim, he was able to free one hand from the zip ties and went upstairs to call the police.
Hamilton is described as a black male with a skinny, tall build. He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue Hawaiian patterned shorts, gray tennis shoes and a light blue denim hat. He has reported to have ties to Texas and Philadelphia. He was caught on camera leaving the scene in an older model Honda passenger car with Texas tag SSF5628. The tag was run through GCIC and came back belonging to a white BMW.
In connection with this incident, Hamilton has active warrants that include Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
