Buford varsity and JV teams win Aaron Kirkland Invitational
The second annual Aaron Kirkland Invitational was held on Saturday, Dec. 9 with 22 teams competing in the event. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams from Buford won the event.
Varsity individual weight class champions for Buford included DJ Clarke (113 lbs.), Rylan Ibold (120), Drew Gorman (138), Grayson Santee (165) and Albert Butler (285).
Other Buford wrestlers placing at the event were Aaron Riner (215) second place, Hudson Danielson (150) third place, Conor McCloskey (190) fourth place, Tyson Matz (106) fifth place, Callum McCormack (157) fifth place and JD Gregory (175) sixth place.
The individual weight class champions for Buford’s junior varsity team were Trey Gregory (138), Kaden Pope (150), Colton Pope (165), Jax Pope (175) and Brock Boozer (215).
Other Buford junior varsity wrestlers who placed were Jonah McClure (126) second place, Aiden Juarez (157) second place, Abanoub Mikhail (165) second place, Rhett Cockfield (190) second place, Izu Oburota (285) second place, Adam Culican (150) third place, Elijah Mardini (144), third place, Colson Fuller (190) third place, Brian Castellanos (144) fourth place, Jaden Sepulveda (132) fifth place and Ashton Prehar (157) fifth place.

Boys basketball
Buford 64, Etowah 63
The Buford boys basketball team got the win over Etowah by one point in the Wood Elite Sewer Classic on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Etowah High School. The final score of the game was Buford 64-63 over Etowah.
Senior Jackson Houston led the offense for Buford (4-1) scoring 19 points while fellow senior Chase Robinson contributed 16 points.
The Wolves’ next game will be on Tuesday, Dec. 12 against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee at 7:30 p.m. at the Buford Arena.
Lanier 77, Sequoyah 59
The Lanier boys basketball team defeated Sequoyah 77-59 in the Wood Elite Sewer Classic at Etowah High School on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The standouts for Lanier (3-4) during the game were Drew Cowan with 18 points and four assists; Amari Morgan with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists; Brandon Lanier with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Tahai Morgan with 17 points, five assists and two steals; and Cameron Thornton with eight assists and four rebounds.
Lanier will play again on Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. versus James F. Byrnes.
Girls Basketball
Buford 77, Central-Macon 55
The Buford girls basketball team played in the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase at Grayson High School on Saturday, Dec. 9 against Central-Macon. Buford defeated Central-Macon 77-55.
Buford improved their overall season record to 4-1 and they will host Rabun Gap-Nacoochee on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Buford Arena.
