Three local basketball players were named to the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s 2023-24 Preseason Watch List, which they released on Thursday.
Two boys made the list from the Buford/Sugar Hill area, Tahai Morgan, a senior at Lanier High School and Asa Williams, a senior at Buford High School.
Morgan is a 6-foot-1 shooting guard and small forward. He was instrumental the last season where he helped the Lanier boys basketball team capture the 2022-23 Region 8-6A championship title and made it to the GHSA Class 6A semifinals. Lanier had a close game with Lee County in the semifinals only losing by one point. The Lanier Longhorns boys basketball team is coached by Branden Mayweather.
Williams is a 6-foot-4 guard and a key player for the Buford boys basketball team. Last season the Wolves won the 2022-23 Region 8-7A championship title and made it to the first round of the state playoffs. Williams is coached this season by new Buford head coach Wes Parker, a former Buford assistant coach.
Senior Ava Grace Watson is the lone girl from the Buford/Sugar Hill area to make this season’s Preseason Watch List. Watson is a 5-foot-8 point guard for the Buford girls basketball team. The Ohio State commit has been a varsity starter for the Wolves since she was a freshman. Watson helped lead her team last season to the 2022-23 Region 8-7A Championship and the GHSA Class 7A semifinals before losing to Norcross. She also assisted the Wolves to two Region 8-6A Championship titles, as well as appearances in the Class 6A playoff quarterfinals and the second round of Class 6A playoffs. The Buford girls basketball team’s head coach is veteran head coach Gene Durden.
