Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a house fire in Sugar Hill on Tuesday evening, Mar. 12.
At 8:47 p.m. on Tuesday, a neighbor reported to 911 that flames were coming out of the roof of the home next door to them in the 6000 block of Stewart Road in Sugar Hill.
Fire crews arrived on the scene at 8:55 p.m. and immediately deployed two hose lines to combat the fire found in the basement with an extension into the attic. A search was conducted of the home and it was determined that the house was vacant. No injuries were reported on the scene.
The fire was knocked down by 9:08 p.m. Sawnee EMC assisted with cutting utilities to the home.
Fire Public Information Officer Cpt. Ryan McGiboney said, “Firefighters determined that the origin of the accidental fire was consistent with a failure in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Firefighters could not rule out a failed HVAC system as a potential source of the fire.”
Three engines, one ladder truck, one squad, one med unit, one air and light, two command vehicles and one PIO responded to the scene.
