Buford senior Mackenzie Pickens hit her 33rd career home run against Apalachee, breaking the school career home run record on Wednesday, August 16 at the Buford Softball Complex. The Wolves defeated the Wildcats 7-0.

The Buford High School career home run record was previously held by Samantha Thomas, a 2017 graduate.

Pickens finished the night 1-for-2 with the two-run home run in the fourth inning, three RBIs and a run scored.

Sophomore Caroline Stanton pitched her first-ever career no-hitter against the GHSA Class AAAAAA state runner-up Apalachee.

Stanton (2-0) pitched a complete game (seven innings) where she gave up no hits or runs while striking out 11 and walking one.

Other Buford (5-0) offensive standouts were sophomore Kadyn Gabrels (2-for-3, one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base), senior Madison Pickens (1-for-4, two RBIs, one run scored and one stolen base) and sophomore Summer Castorri (1-for-2, a walk, one RBI and one run scored).

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, Buford will host South Forsyth at the Buford Softball Complex.
