Buford High School’s varsity softball team remains at the top of the rankings going into their sixth week of competition.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll has Buford ranked first in the nation for the third straight week. The Wolves have held the top spot in the NFCA rankings for the sixth consecutive poll dating back to last year. Buford and East Paulding (No. 7) are the only Georgia schools in the top 10.

Buford made gains in the MaxPreps rankings as they jumped two spots to be the No. 3 team in the country and rose one spot in the state to be the top team regardless of classification. East Paulding is ranked as the fourth team in the country and second in the state. Buford remains in first in Class AAAAAAA ahead of East Coweta.

In Region 8-AAAAAAA, Buford (4-0) again holds the top spot with Mountain View (3-1) and Mill Creek (2-1) rounding out the top three teams.

Last week, Buford defeated Collins Hill 9-0, Wesleyan 5-1 and Dacula 13-1. The Wolves had 32 hits, 27 runs scored, were walked 14 times, hit four home runs and stole 10 bases in Week No. 5.

So far this season, Buford has scored 116 times and allowed only seven runs to be scored by their opponents. Buford’s numbers are impressive with a team batting average of .409, staff ERA of 0.51 and a .973 fielding percentage.

Buford goes into the sixth week with a perfect 12-0 season record. The Wolves have a busy week ahead with four games during an already busy Homecoming week.
