The Buford High School varsity softball team has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation by both MaxPreps and the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA).

MaxPreps has Buford ranked No. 1 in the nation with Red Oak (OK) at No. 2, Jeff Davis (GA) at No. 3, Houston County (GA) at No. 4 and rounding out the top five is Owasso (OK).

In the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches’ Poll Buford is in first with Columbine (CO) in second, Holy Family (CO) is third, Gretna (NE) is fourth and Caddo (CO) comes in fifth in this poll.

The reigning state champions have started this year off strong. At the end of week three of the season, the Wolves’ overall season record is 8-0 and 1-0 in Region 8-AAAAAAA. They have outscored their opponents 72-5 and are averaging 9 runs scored per game.

The team has put up some impressive numbers so far this season. The team’s batting average is .391 while their opponent’s batting average is .112. Buford’s pitchers have been solid on the mound and have a staff ERA of 0.62. Buford’s fielding percentage is also strong at .970 over the first eight games of the season.

Buford is on the road this week to Mill Creek on Tuesday and Central Gwinnett on Thursday. Both games are Region 8-AAAAAAA games and start at 6 p.m.
