Buford’s varsity softball team broke the record for the most runs scored in an inning during their 19-2 win over Walnut Grove on Tuesday, August 13 in Loganville.

The Lady Wolves had an explosive seventh inning scoring 14 runs, a program record for the most runs scored in a single inning. Going into the seventh inning Buford only had a three-point lead over the Warriors.

Before the game was over, every Buford starter would have at least one hit, seven players had hits in the double-digits. Junior pinch hitter Caroline Stanton earned seven RBIs, the most among the Lady Wolves. She hit two home runs and a sac fly.

Buford got on the board with two runs scored in the first inning thanks to a sac fly by Summer Castorri that allowed Brooklyn Atha and Izzy Rettiger to cross home plate.

Atha and Rettiger would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning and Walnut Grove would also score two runs in the same inning to make it 4-2 going into the sixth inning. Buford added a fifth run during their half of the sixth inning.

Rettiger would lead off the Lady Wolves in the seventh inning with a single hit but quickly reached third base after she stole two bases. Rettiger and Castorri scored runs after Stanton hit the first of her two home runs in the inning. Five runs were scored in between Stanton’s two home runs and four runs were added after her, making the final score 19-2 in favor of Buford.
