Both the Buford boys and girls basketball teams have a lot to celebrate after the Region 8-7A awards and the Gwinnett Tip-off Club’s January awards were announced.
Buford was announced as the Gwinnett Tip-Off Club’s Team of the Month for January for both the boys and the girls.
Gene Durden, head coach for the Buford girls basketball team was awarded the Gwinnett Tip-Off Club’s January Girls Coach of the Month Award. Durden led his team to an undefeated region record and to win the Region 8-7A title on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Buford boys head coach, Wes Parker, in his first year as a head coach, earned the Region 8-7A Coach of the Year Award, as well as recognition from the Gwinnett Tip-Off Club as the January Boys Coach of the Month. Parker also led his team to an undefeated region record and the Region 8-7A championship title.
The Buford basketball teams captured both of the Region 8-7A Player of the Year Awards. Seniors Chase James Robinson and Ava Grace Watson took the honors.
Making the Region 8-7A All-Region team were seniors Brennan Wansley and Jackson Houston for the boys and senior Betty Nguyen and sophomore Lydia Ledford for the girls.
Honorable Mention was awarded to senior Asa Williams, senior Alyssa Green, junior Kyle Carpenter, sophomore Izzy Rettiger and freshman E’miah Fields.
Senior Ava Grace Watson and sophomore Torre Costin were named All-Region Defensive Team.
