Buford 79, Harrison 76
In their season opener, the Buford boys basketball team beat Harrison 79-76 in double overtime on Monday, Nov. 25 at the Harrison Thanksgiving Tournament.
Senior Ben Wilcox led the Wolves’ offense scoring 25 points. Junior Dillon Nixon contributed to the offense with 24 points while sophomore Carmelo Williams added 23 points for Buford (1-0).
Buford will play Kennesaw Mountain on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. in the Harrison Thanksgiving Tournament.
Lanier 66, Mount Vernon 48
A strong second half helped the Lanier boys basketball team defeat Mount Vernon 66-48 on Monday in the Dacula Invitational. The Longhorns outscored the Mustangs 41-20 in the final two-quarters of the game.
Senior Amari Morgan had a fantastic game. He scored 21 points and had five rebounds and three assists.
Other standouts for Lanier (5-2) were senior Brandon Lanier (12 points, five rebounds, four assists), junior Justin Cunningham (11 points, nine rebounds, three assists) and sophomore DJ Embery (eight points, seven rebounds, six assists).
Lanier will face Mountain View on Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. in a neutral non-conference game.
Girls basketball
Buford 57, East Forsyth 30
The Buford girls basketball team had a 57-30 win over East Forsyth in the Jackson EMC Tipoff Tournament at Jefferson on Monday.
Buford (2-0) will continue to play in the Jackson EMC Tipoff Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. against Jefferson.
Lanier 55, Loganville 42
The Lanier girls basketball team also played in the Jackson EMC Tipoff Tournament at Jefferson on Monday. The Longhorns beat Loganville 55-42.
Lanier (2-4) was led by sophomore Michelle Ezumah (19 points, 18 rebounds, three steals, two blocks), sophomore Brooke Parent (12 points), senior Ta’lynn Harris (10 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals), senior Oluwadamilare Falade (6 points) and junior Jordan Johnson (five points, three assists, three steals).
Lanier will continue to play at Jefferson on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 12 p.m. against Cherokee Bluff.
Seckinger 62, Monroe Area 55
The Seckinger girls basketball team got a 62-55 win over Monroe Area on Monday, Nov. 25.
The offensive leader for Seckinger (2-3) was Alaina Johnson with 30 points. Megan Whitt contributed with eight points.
Seckinger will play again on Dec. 3 at Milton. The game starts at 6 p.m.
