Buford 50, Central Gwinnett 48
The Buford boys basketball team was able to hold on to defeat Central Gwinnett 50-48 on Friday night, Jan. 12 in Lawrenceville.
Senior Jackson Houston led Buford’s offense with 15 points followed by senior Brennan Wansley who scored 13 points.
Buford’s overall season record has improved to 14-3 and 3-0 in Region 8-7A.
The Wolves will host River Ridge on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in a non-region game.
Girls basketball
Buford 80, Central Gwinnett 56
Ohio State commit Ava Grace Watson dominated in Buford’s game against region opponent Central Gwinnett on Friday, Jan. 12. Watson scored 28 points in the game helping the Lady Wolves to an 80-56 win over the Lady Black Knights.
Watson was just one of nine different Buford players to score against Central Gwinnett. Other Buford offensive standouts were sophomore Lydia Ledford (11 points), freshman E’miah Fields (11 points), senior Betty Nguyen (seven points) and junior Cybele Forbes (six points).
Buford’s overall season record improved to 14-1 and 3-0 in Region 8-7A.
The Lady Wolves host River Ridge in a non-region game on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m.
Lanier 47, Shiloh 39
The Lanier girls basketball team picks up a key region win over Shiloh with a final score of 47-39 on Friday, Jan. 13.
Standouts for the Lady Longhorns were senior Asja Howell (18 points, three rebounds), sophomore Jordan Johnson (12 points, three steals), junior Oluwadamilare Falade (nine points, three rebounds) and senior Harmony Williams (four points, seven rebounds, three assists, seven steals).
Lanier’s overall season record improved to 6-9 and 2-1 in Region 8-6A.
The Lady Longhorns travel to take on region opponent Gainesville on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m.
