A man, who police say robbed a bank in Gainesville, led police on a chase through downtown Buford on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 2.
The Gainesville Police Department posted to social media letting the public know that the Wells Fargo Bank at 1368 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville had been robbed and that they were on the scene around 1 p.m. The suspect, described as a white or Hispanic male with a green and black puffy-style coat, got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Hours later, the Suwanee Police Department noticed a vehicle believed to be involved in the bank robbery in Gainesville in Suwanee. Officers initiated a traffic stop but the driver of the vehicle fled from police. The driver took law enforcement from multiple agencies on a chase.
At approximately 4 p.m., a Buford resident informed Inside Buford that they had just seen a vehicle being chased up South Lee Street in downtown Buford by multiple law enforcement officers. The resident said that there were “around six cop cars following it (the suspect vehicle). Two white and four black police vehicles were chasing a white minivan.”
The suspect was taken into custody not far from where the Buford resident spotted the chase. The suspect was captured in the vicinity of East Broad Street and the GA Highway 20 bridge at the Buford/Sugar Hill city limits.
