Buford High School sophomore pitcher Addie Rackley pitched a complete five-inning game against South Forsyth in which she struck out nine batters. Buford would defeat South Forsyth 9-0 on Saturday, August 19 at the Buford Softball Complex.

Rackley (2-0) gave up the first hit to lead off the game but settled down and took care of business striking out the next seven batters. She would end the game with a career-high nine strikeouts while giving up just two hits, no runs and no walks.

Buford (6-0) would get a lead-off home run to right center field from senior Madison Pickens to start the Wolves’ first at-bat. Later in the first inning, two errors from South Forsyth allowed four more runs to be scored by Buford players ending the first inning with Buford up 5-0 over South Forsyth.

In the fourth inning, the Wolves would add to their lead with three more runs scored. Senior Mackenzie Pickens hit her sixth home run in six games to lead off the fourth inning. More mistakes by South Forsyth’s pitcher allowed Buford runners to get in position to score two additional runs making the score 9-0 going into the fifth inning.

South Forsyth was unable to put together any sort of comeback. Their batters were never able to advance past first base the entire game. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the run rule. This is the fourth time in six games that Buford has ended a game early with the run rule this season.

Offensive standouts for the Wolves were Mackenzie Pickens (2-for-3, solo home run, one RBI and one run scored), Adriana Martinez (2-for-3, a walk and two runs scored), Rackley (2-for-3, double and one RBI) and Madison Pickens (1-for-3, solo home run, one RBI and one run scored).

The Wolves travel to play Cambridge on Monday, August 21, 2023. The game starts at 7 p.m.
