Both the Buford boys and girls basketball teams are looking strong as their regular season is close to the end. Both teams are currently in first place in their regions with one final regular season game left to play.

Buford boys basketball

The boys defeated Collins Hill 66-54, the second time this season that the Wolves came out on top in this region rivalry. The previous meeting of these two teams came on Jan. 16 at Buford with Buford get the win 86-49 over Collins Hill.

Leading the offense for the Wolves on Friday night were Jackson Houston with 20 points, Asa Williams and Torre Costin each had 11 points.

The Wolves have an overall season average of 21-3 and 9-0 in Region 8-7A. They are averaging close to 66 points per game and are currently on a 10-game winning streak. Their last loss came on Dec. 30 against Providence Christian Academy.

Buford has one more game until they wrap up their regular season. They must face Dacula at home on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Buford won their last matchup 59-47 less than a month ago. Dacula is currently second in Region 8-7A just behind the Wolves.

Buford girls basketball

Buford’s girls basketball team beat fellow Region 8-7A opponent Collins Hill 62-48 on Friday night at Collins Hill. 

Senior Ava Grace Watson led the offense with 24 points scored against Collins Hill. Sophomore Lydia Ledford contributed with 15 points and senior Betty Nguyen had 11 points.

Despite a solid 31-point effort from Watson, the Lady Wolves lost a tough non-region game to Holy Innocents Episcopal in overtime on Saturday. The final score was 78-75 in favor of Holy Innocents.

Ledford had one of her best outings of the season scoring 26 points against Holy Innocents. Nguyen contributed with eight points. 

Despite Saturday’s loss to Holy Innocents, the Lady Wolves are still looking strong heading into the final game of the season against Dacula. Buford is averaging just over 69 points per game versus an average of just under 45 points per game for their opponents. 

Buford’s overall season record is now 21-3 and 9-0 in Region 8-7A. 

Buford will host Dacula on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the final game of the regular season. In the two teams’ previous meeting, the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Falcons 77-20 on Jan. 19.v
