Lanier 67, Apalachee 43
Senior Tahai Morgan reached his 1,000th career points milestone during Lanier’s 67-43 win over region opponent Apalachee to a home crowd on Friday, Jan. 19. Tahai Morgan finished the night with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Junior Amari Morgan was the offensive leader for the Longhorns with 22 points scored and seven rebounds. Junior DeAndrew Cowan contributed with 10 points, three rebounds and four assists.
Lanier’s overall season record improved to 8-10 and 3-3 in Region 8-6A.
The Longhorns are on the road for Saturday, Jan. 20 for a non-region game against North Gwinnett. The game starts at 5 p.m.
Buford 59, Dacula 47
The Buford boys basketball team defeated Dacula 59-47 in Region 8-7A play on Friday, Jan. 19 at Dacula High School.
Buford’s offensive standouts were senior Brennan Wansley with 15 points and senior Asa Williams scored 12 points.
Buford’s overall season record improved to 17-3 and 5-0 in Region 8-7A. Buford remained in first place in the region.
The Wolves will take to the road once again on Tuesday, Jan. 23 when they play at Mountain View in a region game. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
Girls basketball
Lanier 48, Apalachee 32
The Lanier Lady Longhorns basketball team got a region win at home on Friday, Jan. 19 when they beat Apalachee 48-32.
Standouts for Lanier were sophomore Jordan Johnson (19 points, seven rebounds), senior Asja Howell (nine points, two assists), junior Oluwadamilare Falade (nine points, two rebounds), freshman Michelle Ezumah (five points, 16 rebounds) and senior Harmony Williams (two points, five rebounds, six steals).
Lanier’s overall season record improved to 9-9 and 5-1 in Region 8-6A. The Lady Longhorns are currently in second place in their region.
The Lady Longhorns travel to play the Lady Bulldogs of North Gwinnett in a non-region game on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
Buford 77, Dacula 20
The Buford Lady Wolves basketball team dominated Dacula at Dacula with a 77-20 win in Region 8-7A play on Friday, Jan. 19. Buford led Dacula 50-8 at the half as once again, the Lady Wolves’ full court press stifles another team’s offense.
Ten different Buford players scored against Dacula with senior Ava Grace Watson leading the pack with 22 points scored. Sophomore Lydia Ledford wasn’t far behind with 21 points scored. Freshman E’miah Fields was the third top scorer for the Lady Wolves with 12 points scored.
Buford’s overall season record improved to 16-2 and 5-0 in Region 8-7A. The Lady Wolves hold on to the top spot in the region.
The Lady Wolves will also be on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 23 as they travel to play Mountain View in another region game. The game starts at 6 p.m.
