Lanier 64, Habersham Central 60
The Lanier boys basketball team edged past Region 8-6A opponent Habersham Central 64-60 on Tuesday, Jan. 16 on the road.
Standouts for the Longhorns were junior Amari Morgan (15 points, six rebounds, three assists), junior DeAndre Cowan (14 points, three rebounds, three assists), senior Cameron Thornton (10 points, four rebounds, three assists) and freshman Dj Bembrey (10 points, four rebounds, three assists).
Lanier’s overall season record improved to 7-10 and 2-3 in Region 8-6A.
The Longhorns will host Apalachee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at the Ranch.
Buford 86, Collins Hill 49
Senior Chase James-Robinson led Buford’s offense against Collins Hill in Region 8-7A play on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Buford Arena. The Wolves defeated the Eagles 86-49 to remain undefeated in the region.
Robinson scored 30 points for Buford and fellow senior Jackson Houston was the next top scorer with 15 points.
Buford’s overall season record improved to 16-3 and 4-0 in Region 8-7A.
Girls basketball
Buford 58, Collins Hill 22
The Buford Lady Wolves basketball team’s defense stifled Collins Hill during Buford’s 58-22 win on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Buford Arena.
Collins Hill was able to score only eight points during the first quarter and were scoreless in the second quarter thanks to Buford’s full-court press style of play.
Senior Ava Grace Watson led the Lady Wolves on the offense with 21 points scored. Other offensive standouts for Buford were sophomore Lydia Ledford with 10 points, freshman E’miah Fields with eight points, senior Betty Nguyen with seven points and junior Cybele Forbes with six points.
Buford’s overall season record improved to 15-2 and 4-0 in Region 8-7A.
The Lady Wolves travel to take on the Dacula Lady Falcons in a region game on Friday, Jan. 19. The game starts at 6 p.m.
Lanier 46, Habersham Central 39
The Lanier Lady Longhorns basketball team beat the Habersham Central Lady Raiders 46-39 on the road in Region 8-6A play on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Standouts for Lanier were senior Asja Howell (16 points, three rebounds), sophomore Jordan Johnson (15 points, four rebounds) and senior Harmony Williams (three points, four rebounds, three assists, four blocks).
The Lady Longhorns’ overall season record improved to 8-9 and 4-1 in Region 8-6A.
Lanier will host Apalachee at the Ranch in a region game on Friday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.
