The Gwinnett County Police Department released additional details about the fatal pedestrian accident that happened on Sunday afternoon in the Mall of Georgia parking lot.

“According to the preliminary investigation, three pedestrians were crossing Mall of Georgia Drive (the inner perimeter roadway for the Mall of Georgia) located in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods and Von Maur and walking east towards the parking lot,” Gwinnett Police said in a released statement about the incident.

The investigation indicated that the 18-year-old driver of a 2004 white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck hit the three pedestrians when he turned left onto Mall of Georgia Drive from the mall parking lot.

Two of the pedestrians, a male, age 31 and a female, age 7 were transported to a local hospital with what police say were non-life-threatening injuries. The third pedestrian, Abigail Hernandez, age 4 was rushed to Scottish Rite Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The white pickup truck was impounded by the Gwinnett County Police Department and is being held at police headquarters for further investigation. The case is still under investigation.
