The Gwinnett County Police Department has released additional information on the Ivy Birch Way homicide that took place on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a call where the caller reported hearing sounds of someone grunting and other loud noises in the vicinity of 3200 Ivy Birch Way in Buford.
Officers located a home with the lights on and got Erik Luiz Lopez, 19 to open the door. Officers located a deceased male inside the home.
After an investigation, detectives believe that Luiz Lopez got into a fight with another man who shared a bedroom with him inside the home. According to police, Luiz Lopez choked his roommate with a television cable and left the room to find a knife. He returned to the bedroom and stabbed the victim several times killing him.
Luiz Lopez has been arrested and charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife or firearm during the commission of a crime. He is being held without bond.
Police are still not releasing the identity of the victim at this time.
