An officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department performed the pit maneuver on a wrong-way driver in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 12 in Buford.

While on patrol, Sgt. Kingsley encountered the wrong-way driver at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Sunday. Sgt. Kingsley watched the driver make a U-turn in front of him at the intersection of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. After making the U-turn, the driver continued traveling on the wrong side of the road.

In a released statement about the incident, the Gwinnett County Police Department said, “Sgt. Kingsley quickly made the decision to perform a PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop before it could hit anyone head-on.”

Body camera footage from the incident was released showing Sgt. Kingsley performed the pit maneuver on the wrong-way driver’s vehicle. The officer ordered a woman out of the vehicle while telling the male passenger to remain in the car.

The female driver, Yuris Garcia Galvez, 27 of Gainesville, was arrested and charged with DUI, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police. She was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail without incident.
