The Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a “person hit by vehicle” call on Sunday afternoon, Mar. 10 at the Mall of Georgia which left one juvenile dead and two additional people injured.

Shortly after 4 p.m., officers with the North Precinct arrived on the scene in the Mall of Georgia parking lot in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods and requested the Accident Investigation Unit.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said in a released statement, “One juvenile was transported to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta – Egleston where they were pronounced deceased. Two additional patients were transported to Northside Hospital Lawrenceville with non-life-threatening injuries.”

According to police, the vehicle’s driver involved in the incident remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. It is currently unknown what factors were involved leading up to the accident, but the Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating it.

The police are withholding identifying information about the deceased juvenile until all next-of-kin are notified.
