Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services were busy on Tuesday, Jan. 2 battling two residential fires in the Buford/Lawrenceville area.

The first fire was in the 2700 block of Springfount Trail NE which is on the border of Buford and Lawrenceville. That fire was dispatched at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire on Springfount Trail NE originated in the basement from an electrical source.

The second fire was at a home in the 2300 block of Cedar Valley Court, also on the border of Buford and Lawrenceville near Coolray Field. Firefighters were dispatched to the Cedar Valley Court fire at 8:21 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire investigators determined the fire on “Cedar Valley Court originated in the fireplace and extended to the chimney flue,” said Ryan McGiboney, Public Information Officer with the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Neither home was a total loss. “Our crews arrived quickly and were able to gain control of the fire(s) expeditiously,” said McGiboney.
