Six individual first-place finishes helped the Buford varsity wrestling team win the Archer Invitational on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Buford’s JV team also finished first thanks to four individual champions.
Buford’s varsity wrestling team accumulated a total of 270 points during the tournament, well ahead of the second-place finisher Jefferson’s 164.5 points. Host team Archer rounded out the top three with 150.5 points.
The Wolves’ individual champions were freshman Cooper McArthur (106 lb weight class), freshman Chris Metz (113), junior DJ Clarke (132), senior Maddox McArthur (138), senior Kieron McCormack (144) and freshman Trey Gregory (150).
Junior Kaden Pope (165), junior Jack Gea (215) and senior Albert Butler (HWT) finished in second place in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Callum McCormack came in third in the 157 lb weight class. In fourth place was senior Cristian Hernandez (175) while junior Jonah McClure (126) and sophomore Colton Pope (190) placed fifth.
The individual champions for Buford’s JV wrestling team were freshman Crew Castorri (106), freshman Tyler Russu (132), junior Adam Culican (150) and sophomore Bradley Thompson (157).
In addition to the four individual champions, the JV Wolves got top six finishes from sophomore Mark Selyuzhitskiy (175), freshman Branden Cessna (HWT), second place; second place; sophomore Hunter Knox (126), third place; freshman Slayden Hultquist (144), fourth place; sophomore Xavier Perez-Ostoja (165), fourth place; sophomore Emanuel Padilla (120), fifth place and freshman Gianni Pitts (138), sixth place.
