Buford’s varsity softball team padded their lead in Region 8-AAAAAAA with a 16-5 win over Mill Creek on Wednesday, September 13 at Mill Creek.
Buford kicked off the scoring in the top of the second inning when a double by Summer Castorri drove in Addie Rackley. Tavye Borders added a run for the Wolves from a single by Kylie Gower. Castorri added the third and final run of the inning.
In the top of the third inning, Adriana Martinez hit her second home run in as many games followed by two runs by Rackley and Borders. Buford ended their side of the inning up 6-0 over Mill Creek.
Gower scored the lone run in the fourth inning for the Wolves making the score 7-0 going into the bottom of the inning with Mill Creek up to bat. The Hawks would score three runs in their side of the inning which were helped by two Buford field errors.
Caroline Stanton, Borders and Castorri each crossed home plate in the fifth inning to put Buford up 10-3 before Mill Creek’s at-bat. The Hawks added to runs before Buford’s starting pitcher, Rackley was relieved by Stanton. Stanton ended the inning with a strikeout.
In the top of the sixth inning, Stanton hit a solo home run which was followed by five additional runs scored making it 16-5 in favor of Buford. Mill Creek batters were quickly dispatched by Stanton in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game was called at that time due to the run rule.
Rackley (3-0) would pitch four and two-thirds innings for the Wolves. She gave up six hits, five runs (two earned), walked one and struck out two before Stanton entered the game in relief. Stanton did not give up any hits or runs while striking out four in her one-and-a-third innings on the mound.
