According to a recent report by SmartAsset, a personal finance website, Buford ranked in the top 10 safest suburbs in the nation.

SmartAsset compiled data on 360 suburbs of the top 100 major cities in the U.S. A city or town must be between a 15-45-minute drive from a major city to be considered a suburb by SmartAsset.

All 360 suburbs were ranked after SmartAsset compiled and analyzed data in five key metrics that included “reported crime, lethal car accidents, drug overdose deaths and excessive drinking.”

Buford came in at No. 7 on this year’s list with Lehi, Utah in the top spot. Bethesda, Md.; Layton, Utah; Rockville, Md.; Great Falls, Va. and Dacula, Ga. rounded out the top six safest suburbs on SmartAsset’s list.

According to their data, Buford’s violent crime per capita rate was 0.00337 and property crime reported per capita was 0.01034. Buford tied Dacula with the number of motor vehicle crash deaths per 100,000 residents at 9.10, the percentage of adults who were engaged in excessive drinking at 14.36% and the number of drug overdose deaths per 100,000 residents at 12.94.

SmartAsset has Buford’s median monthly rent at $1,134, accounting for 20% of a household’s income being used to pay rent. The median yearly household income was $68,165.
