The Buford Business Alliance awarded its first-ever scholarship to a recent graduate from Buford High School. The $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Michael “Dexter” Brewster.
The main requirement to win the BBA scholarship was that the student must have participated in Buford High School’s CTE Department. Students have the option to pursue classes in Audio, Video, Technology and Film; Business Accounting/Finance; Carpentry; Computer Science; Criminal Justice; Nutrition and Food Science; Sports and Entertainment Marketing; Teaching as a Profession; Therapeutic Services: Sports Medicine and Patient Care and Work-Based Learning.
Dexter completed the marketing career pathway at BHS, as well as one year of business classes. During his senior year as part of the marketing pathway, Dexter volunteered in the Wolves Den store at the school. He participated in Beta Club, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society) and several AP and Honors classes during the four years at BHS. He maintained a 3.9 GPA at Buford and will be attending Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. in the fall where he plans to pursue an accounting degree.
Dexter attended the BBA’s afterhours meeting on June 14 at Topgolf where the BBA introduced Dexter as the alliance’s first-ever scholarship recipient.
The Buford Business Alliance has strong ties with Buford’s CTE Department and has plans to continue to award at least one scholarship annually to one of the department’s students.
