Both the Buford boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are performing well as they head into the final two weeks of the regular season. They had a busy week, as they each took on and defeated four different opponents. During the past week, both teams faced three Region 8-6A opponents and one non-region opponent.
The Buford boys basketball team kicked off the week on Monday, Jan. 13, beating Dacula 79-65 at home. They turned around the next day and outscored Mountain View by 20 points with the final score 75-55. Leading Buford’s offense against the Bears was senior Kyle Carpenter, who scored 18 points while sophomore Carmelo Williams contributed 13 points.
After having a couple of days off, the Wolves were back in action on Friday, Jan. 17 at Collins Hill. Buford claimed a 71-55 win over the Eagles. Junior Dillon Nixon scored 26 points against Collins Hill, the most points he scored in a single game this season. Williams also had a solid game with 16 points.
On Saturday, Jan. 18, Buford traveled to play Southwest Dekalb in a non-region game where the Wolves claimed a narrow 48-45 victory over the Panthers. Carpenter and Williams contributed 13 and 12 points respectively.
After a successful week, Buford remains in sole possession of first place in Region 8-6A ahead of Mill Creek. Their overall season record is 15-3 and 8-0 in their region.
The Wolves take to the court again on Monday, Jan. 20 when they participate in the MLK Classic at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School. Buford plays Calvary Day from Savannah at 12:05 p.m. After this game, Buford has one non-region and four region games remaining in the regular season. Their last game is on Feb. 4 at Dacula.
The Buford girls basketball team also kicked off the week on Monday with a win over Dacula. They beat Dacula 52-45 with sophomore E’Miah Fields scoring 20 points to lead the Buford offense. Junior Lydia Ledford contributed 17 points.
The Lady Wolves dominated Mountain View on Tuesday at home. Buford’s defense held the Lady Bears to seven points in the first half while they had 42 points at halftime. Nine Buford players scored in their 62-19 victory over Mountain View.
On Friday, Buford played their third Region 8-6A game of the week at Collins Hill. The Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Eagles 67-42 with Ledford scoring 22 points and Fields adding 17 points.
Buford played their final game of the week, a non-region game at Southwest Dekalb on Saturday. The Lady Wolves bested the Lady Panthers 52-45 to close out their successful week. Ledford had a stellar game where she scored 35 points. Fields had a solid game with 15 points.
The Lady Wolves were able to take sole possession of first place in Region 8-6A after they won their three region games this week and Mill Creek suffered two losses. Buford’s overall season record improved to 16-1 and 7-1 in Region 8-6A.
Buford’s next game is a region game against Central Gwinnett on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Buford Arena. Following this game, the Lady Wolves will have three non-region and three region games remaining in the regular season, which ends on Feb. 4 at Dacula.
