Junior Addie Rackley hit a solo home run in the third inning, her 12th home run of the season, in Buford’s win over North Cobb. Buford, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 6A per the ScoreAtlanta/AJC Sportswriters Poll, defeated North Cobb, the No. 4 ranked team in Class 6A 8-1 on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Buford Softball Complex.

Rackley scored Buford’s first run in the first inning with a ground out that drove in senior Izzy Rettiger. Junior Caroline Stanton followed Rackley with a line drive to centerfield, allowing junior Kadyn Gabrels to cross home plate to put the Lady Wolves up 2-0 over the Lady Warriors.

In the second inning, Buford added two more runs from three consecutive bunt single hits. Rackley hit her solo home run in the bottom of the third inning to give Buford a 5-0 advantage over North Cobb.

Pitching for Buford was Rackley (8-0) who pitched for four innings. She allowed one hit and no runs while striking out seven. Stanton entered the game in the top of the fifth inning to relieve Rackley.

The Lady Wolves scored two additional runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The runs came from a lead-off walk to Rackley plus doubles from Stanton and senior Kylie Gower.

In the top of the sixth inning, North Cobb scored their only run of the game when they got a lead-off single, a sac bunt, a bunt that was a single, and a double-steal.

Buford scored their final run of the game when junior Summer Castorri hit a double, driving in Rettiger to make it Buford 8-1.

Stanton closed out the game with a 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning. She earned her first save of the season. Rackley and Stanton pitched 14 strikeouts between the two of them.

Offensive standouts for Buford were Gower (3-for-3, double, one RBI, one run scored), sophomore Janie Goldin (3-for-3, one run scored, one stolen base), Castorri (2-for-4, double, two RBIs) and Rackley (1-for-2, solo home run, two walks, two RBIs, one run scored).

Buford’s overall season record improved to 19-1 and 9-0 in Region 8-6A. Up next for the Lady Wolves is a home game against Collins Hill on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 5:55 p.m.
