A Gwinnett County firefighter was sent to the hospital with minor injuries following a Saturday night business fire in Sugar Hill.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at Benchmark Physical Therapy in the 4500 block of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard in Sugar Hill. Fire crews arrived at 7:17 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, and found fire coming from the two-story office building, with the worst of the fire coming from the roof and attic above the main level.

Two hose lines were deployed to combat flames while search crews entered the business to look for victims. Once fire crews encountered a roof collapse, all firefighting crews exited the building. Two ladder trucks were brought in to help knock down the bulk of the fire.

Interior operations were once again attempted after fire crews gained control of the fire at 7:42 p.m. Firefighters on the inside worked on fully extinguishing the fire. 

One firefighter was sent to the hospital with minor injuries sustained from ground operations. No other injuries were reported. 

The business keyholder was contacted and told firefighters that they had left the office on Friday and had not returned since.

According to fire investigators, the fire originated in the attic space of the business, and the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Four engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, one medical unit, one medical supervisor, three command staff units, one air and light unit, one HAZMAT unit, one fire inspector and one PIO responded to the scene.
