A big night from senior Ethan Murray propelled Buford to a 9-2 win over Region 8-7A opponent Mountain View on Friday, Mar. 15 at Gerald McQuaig Field.
Buford’s lead-off hitter Cannon Goldin scored the first game run for the Wolves in the bottom of the first inning when Georgia Tech commit Ethan Murray hit a sac fly to deep centerfield.
In the top of the third inning, Mountain View scored two runs off of a triple and a home run. The Bears led 2-1 going into the bottom of the inning.
The Wolves retook the lead in their half of the third inning after Murray hit a three-run home run giving Buford a 4-2 lead.
Murray once again drove in Goldin, scoring his third run of the night in the bottom of the fourth inning. Buford was up 5-2 over Mountain View going into the top of the fifth inning.
Buford added a few more insurance runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore Cam Wood hit a single allowing senior Madden Young and Taylor to score. Mountain View’s pitching staff ran into trouble with Murray hit by a pitch, the single from Wood and two consecutive walks later, Murray and Wood scored runs.
The Wolves completed the sweep of the Bears with a final score of 9-2.
Senior Damian Brown (2-0) recorded the win for Buford after pitching 4.2 innings. He gave up four hits, two earned runs, a walk and struck out nine batters. Sophomore Kyle Krause relieved Brown on the mound in the fifth inning.
Offensive standouts for the Wolves were Murray (1-for-1, three-run home run, sac fly, four RBIs, two runs scored), Wood (3-for-4, three RBIs, one run scored), Goldin (2-for-3, two walks, three runs scored, three stolen bases) and freshman Ian Chafin (1-for-3, one RBI, one stolen base).
Buford’s overall season record improved to 9-4 and 3-0 in Region 8-7A.
